The immediate power of decluttering

ANGIE’S INSIGHT OF THE WEEK: I recently experienced the power of decluttering first hand. And it was almost immediate.

I’ve always had a passing interest in Feng Shui. Even if I wasn’t 100% convinced of its effectiveness, I liked the thought of certain areas of my house representing different aspects of my life. And it sounded kind of cool and mystical that putting a crystal or plant or “symbol” in a particular corner would lead to improvements in the corresponding life area.

I’ve been slowly decluttering my house for the past several months. I’ve done the bulk of it now except for a few boxes of old papers that I still need to go through. I can’t just throw them away because I know there are important documents in there. So I need to take the time to go through them.

For a while they’ve been in my study, which is also my home office, and they were OK there. Until I needed to do a photo shoot of my office, so I moved them all into a corner of my bedroom temporarily.

That was about a month ago!

And for the last month, I’ve slept badly, I’ve had nightmares (when I rarely did before) and I’ve been worried and stressed. More than my usual levels of worry and stress. I’ve also had financial issues for the first time in a long time.

Now there are many reasons for all these things happening, so I don’t want to get all voodoo and spiritual and say that a few boxes have caused a major life shift.

However… the other day I had a brain wave and wondered which life aspect was represented by that corner of the room. Turns out it’s the Power, Wealth, Abundance and Prosperity corner.

Without delay, I moved those boxes right out of there!

And while I can’t say that I have won a huge new client or won the lottery (yet!), I almost immediately felt an overwhelming sense of relief and hope for the future. That heavy feeling of worry and stress is not there anymore. Not only that, but I’ve returned to restful nights of slumber ever since.

Do you believe in Feng Shui? How does clutter affect you? Have you had a similar experience to mine?
